Personal Vision

When Maestro Bahman Saless recently visited my Conscious ListeningTM Café as the featured guest, we found many mutual ideas and thematic interests. In a life full of distractions and noise, we process life better when we take the time to listen to artful music whole-heartedly.

I am thrilled to present a 2023-2024 A "Conscious Listening Residency" at the Boulder Chamber Orchestra. Established in 2004, BCO's mission is to promote classical musical arts and education to all people through an engaging and profound musical experience that transforms lives. Following several joyful collaborations as a concerto soloist, I will be sharing my ideas on collaborative listening with the principle players of the BCO.

When I first created the Conscious ListeningTM Process 14 years ago, I wanted to expand the way audiences listen and engage with concert music. I have also spent fourteen years working with University of Colorado students on how to rehearse and collaborate in a way that was led by listening, so that the way they perform was personally meaningful and multidimensional. My own performances, listening workshops and teaching activities are deeply intertwined, because I think that understanding art music goes beyond thinking and invites the connection of mind, body, and heart in an immersive participation.

I am thrilled to partner with Maestro Saless, my wonderful colleagues at the BCO, and the Boulder arts community to use chamber music as a way to cultivate a culture of collaborative listening!
